South Callaway mauls Montgomery County

Senior Cory Hanger and freshman Landon Horstman threw a combined three-hitter to vault the Bulldogs to a stifling 13-0 five-inning romp over the Wildcats on Saturday.

The Montgomery County Tournament was cancelled due to wet field conditions, so the contest closed out a round-robin tournament featuring South Callaway, Montgomery County and the North Callaway Thunderbirds.

Hanger gave up two hits in three innings to collect the win. He struck out three and finished with a pair of walks. Horstman fanned two and allowed a hit in two innings of work.

The Bulldogs (6-0) scored once in the top of the first, posted back-to-back five-run frames in the second and third and finished its scoring with two in the fourth.

Senior shortstop Dax Helsel was 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored. Hanger was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while senior first baseman Caleb Sconce was 1-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a run scored.

Senior second baseman Trevor Miller and sophomore third baseman Graysan Peneston each ripped a double as the South Callaway offense dished out 13 hits.

The Bulldogs host Show-Me Conference foe Tuscumbia at 5 p.m. today.
