Shoemaker, Bulldogs take second at Owensville meet

OWENSVILLE - Senior Mason Shoemaker was victorious in the boys' 100 and 200 meters to spur the South Callaway Bulldogs track and field team to a second-place finish at the Owensville Quad on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, senior Hannah Oberdiek triumphed in the girls' long jump and took third in the 100 as the Lady Bulldogs came in fifth as a team.

Shoemaker won the 100 and 200 with respective times of 11.97 and 23.77 seconds as the South Callaway boys recorded 65 points. Host Owensville breezed to the team title with 180 points, while Sullivan was third (55), St. James fourth (53), and New Haven fifth (36).

Senior Cory Hanger also prevailed in the 400 (:53.65) and took second in the 200 (:24.15) for the Bulldogs, while senior Jacob Smith won the javelin (131 feet, 11 inches). Sophomore Bennett Hager finished second in the pole vault (11-0) and senior Terry Miles came in third in both the 800 (2:19.26) and high jump (5-8).

Senior Philip Norris finished third in the javelin (117-9), while South Callaway's 3,200 relay placed third (9:39.89) and its throwers' 400 relay took third (:56.44).

Oberdiek won the long jump with a leap of 16-1 and came in third in the 100 in :13.84 to help the South Callaway girls tally 53 points. New Haven collected the team championship with 105 points, followed by St. James in second (88), Sullivan third (83), and Owensville fourth (66).

Logging second-place outcomes for the Lady Bulldogs were senior Kailey Brooks in the 300 hurdles (:53.78) and freshman Ashley Potter in the 400 (1:09.78). Brooks also finished third in the 100 hurdles (:19.62).

Senior Sarah Jennings took third in the javelin (76-8) and fourth in the discus (74-2). Other third-place finishers for South Callaway were junior Haley Pate in the 400 (1:12.68), freshman Elizabeth Luebbert in the 3,200 (15:05.57), freshman Kaci Jordan in the triple jump (30-4), and the throwers' 400 relay (1:17.08).

South Callaway is scheduled to compete at Versailles at 3 p.m. today, and then at the Northwest Lions Invitational in Cedar Hill on Saturday.
