Callaway Community Hospital to be renamed to Fulton Medical Center

Callaway Community Hospital is being renamed to Fulton Medical Center, according to a press release from the medical institution. The new name, the release states, "reflects a renewed commitment to the hospital and the community."

Planned improvements, the release states, include "replacing the leaking roof at Fulton Medical Center, renovating the clinical areas and exterior and installing new equipment that will improve existing services."

The hospital will remain open during renovations. It will also continue to provide outpatient services and acute care.

The University of Missouri (MU) Health Care and Nueterra announced a joint purchase of Callaway Community Hospital in Fulton in December. The two entities formed Fulton Medical Center LLC to purchase the hospital.

After announcing the purchase, the two organizations said they partnered in an effort to modernize the hospital and improve patient care, according to a statement released at the time.

The medical institution's chief executive officer, Mike Powell, previously told the Fulton Sun the two entities plan to invest $1.8 million in the 37-bed hospital - $1.2 million of that will go toward operating room renovations, roof repairs, electrical upgrades and other building necessities. There are no plans for building expansion and the remaining $600,000, Powell said, will be designated for new surgical equipment.
