Westminster, Webster split SLIAC doubleheader

The visiting Lady Gorloks tallied the decisive run in the top of the eighth inning to upend the Lady Blue Jays 3-2 in the nightcap of Monday's SLIAC doubleheader at Blue Jay Field.

Westminster College (9-12, 6-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) led 2-0 through five innings, but Webster University scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.

The Lady Blue Jays ended the game with the tying run at second in the bottom of the eighth.

Sophomore starter Alyson Hahn threw a complete game in suffering the loss for Westminster. Hahn (7-5) allowed three runs - one earned - on six hits, struck out four and issued two walks.

Freshman first baseman Abby Bartley - a South Callaway graduate - finished 1-for-2, while Hahn and sophomore second baseman Kelsi Hill were both 1-for-3 with an RBI as the Lady Blue Jays were limited to four hits.

Hahn tossed a six-hit shutout to direct Westminster to a 5-0 triumph in Monday's first game. Hahn struck out six and walked none.

Hill scored the Lady Blue Jays' first run on sophomore catcher Alyssa Johnson's two-out double in the bottom of the first. Hill then reached on a Webster error in the second, allowing freshman pinch-runner Katherine Cooper to score.

Sophomore shortstop Brittany Hodge's RBI double and a two-run single by freshman center fielder Amber Tepen accounted for the Lady Blue Jays' three-run fourth.

Hill was 2-for-3 with a double, while Bartley finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as Westminster ended up with eight hits. Johnson and freshman left fielder Kim Morrison both went 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Hahn was tabbed as the SLIAC pitcher of the week Monday. Hahn notched three wins, threw two complete games, recorded a save and struck out 12 in 19 innings of work last week.

Westminster plays a SLIAC doubleheader at Fontbonne University in St. Louis at 5 p.m. Thursday.
