Westminster's Houston resets three records at CMU Invitational

Freshman Anna Houston broke three school records and logged three top-five showings at the Central Methodist University Invitational on April 3.

Houston won the women's triple jump with a record bound of 10.61 meters, while placing second in the long jump with a height of 1.45. She took third in the 100-meter dash, recording a program record time of 15.3 seconds.

Houston - who tallied 28.5 of the Lady Blue Jays' 81.5 team points - earned second in the long jump with a leap of 4.98 meters. Westminster finished fourth in the team standings.

Senior Nyima Njie - a first time participant in the javelin throw - won the event with a toss of 31.25. Freshman Taylor Howard (South Callaway) collected fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 2.45 meters.

Junior Brier Skogsberg clocked a 19:39.65 to take third in the 5,000. Freshman Shannon McCaul earned fifth in the 800 (2:33.53), while senior Danielle Smulczenski finished fifth in the 400 at 1:03.

The 1,600 relay foursome of Howard, senior Tanisha Terrell and freshmen Maria Rains and Madison Zack earned second in a time of 4:16.56. Howard, Njie, Rains and Terrell placed fifth in the 400 relay in a time :53.81.

Senior Michael Lutz and freshman Logan Shoemaker set school records in the men's hammer throw and shot put, respectively.

Lutz topped his own previous program high in the hammer throw by six meters, finishing in eighth with a heave of 41.21. Shoemaker, too, broke his own record, placing third in the shot put at 14.26.

Junior Jesse Edwards was the runner up in the 5,000 with a time of 16:28.28, while senior Daniel Lindaman took third in 16:40.55. Freshman Glenn Teubner added a third-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a result of 10:38.62.

Sophomore Ryan Dyer earned fourth in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:02.23.

Junior Bret Robertson (46.47) and freshman Sam Kroll-Taugsolo (41.35) took third and fifth, respectively, in the javelin.

Westminster will run at Darrel Gourley Open at William Jewell College this Saturday in Liberty.
