Richard "Rick" Kennedy, a 30-year media veteran, has been named as editor of the Fulton Sun. Kennedy, 50, has worked in television, radio and newspapers, and his tenures in community journalism have taken him across the country from Mississippi and Louisiana to Oregon and California.

Kennedy arrives in Fulton after four years in southeast Arkansas, where he worked at the Pine Bluff Commercial as copy desk chief and the Chicot County Spectator as the editor and general manager.

Kennedy also served in newspaper management posts in Washington, California, Idaho, Oregon, Mississippi and Louisiana. He was named as a finalist for the 2004 Business Person of the Year by the Idaho State Journal in recognition of his commentaries and advocacy of economic development in southeastern Idaho.

While working as the city beat reporter at the Bastrop Daily Enterprise, Kennedy won the Louisiana Press Association's first-place award for Best News Story in 1997 for coverage of a paper mill explosion.

The majority of Kennedy's early career was spent in various media outlets, including stints in radio and television production, throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. In 1992, he won the Louisiana Press Association's first-place honors for Best Sports Coverage and Best Sports Photography.

He is a 1988 graduate of the University of Louisiana.
