William Woods swept by Park in AMC doubleheader

The Lady Owls dipped back below .500 and suffered their first American Midwest Conference losses 4-1 and 8-5, respectively, to the Lady Pirates on Friday.

William Woods (15-16, 4-2 AMC) trimmed a six-run deficit down to one in nightcap. The Lady Pirates erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Owls crawled back in it on senior first baseman Kacey Scharnhorst's third-inning grand slam.

A Scharnhorst RBI single in the fifth drew William Woods to within 6-5, but Parkville responded with lone runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to round out its offense.

Scharnhorst finished 2-for-4 and drove in all five Lady Owl runs. Sophomore third baseman Madison McCormick was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored as William Woods was outhit 12-6.

Freshman Bre Logan threw 3 2/3 innings in defeat. Logan allowed six earned runs on eight hits, walked three and fanned one.

Freshman pinch-hitter Beth Begemann singled in the Lady Owls' only tally in the front end of the twinbill. Junior shortstop Shelby LeCuru scored on Begemann's seventh-inning hit, one of five William Woods had for the game.

Park scored twice in the second, then added two more in the fourth.

LeCuru was 1-for-2, while McCormick and senior second baseman Sam Parsons each went 1-for-3.

Freshman Allison Waskow struck out five in the complete-game loss. She gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits and walked two.

The Lady Owls begin an AMC doubleheader at Lindenwood-Belleville at 5 p.m. today. The second game will commence at 7 p.m.
