Westminster blanked 10-0 by Webster

The Blue Jays had just five hits as they were blanked by the Gorlok 10-0 in eight innings of their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series opener on Friday.

Westminster (9-6, 4-2 SLIAC) allowed five runs in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and yielded a lone tally in the seventh.

Junior left fielder Deion Hughes finished 2-for-3 with a double. Senior second baseman Cam Backes, sophomore designated hitter Connor Hager and freshman center fielder Adam Mundle all finished with a hit.

Senior Jake Rule pitched 5 2/3 innings in the loss. Rule (1-1) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits, while striking out three.

Webster (13-8, 3-3 SLIAC) pounded out 18 hits.

The Blue Jays and Gorlok completed their series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
