Fulton boys drop tennis opener to Osage

Freshman Haydon Windsor was responsible for the Hornets' lone win in Tuesday's 8-1 season-opening loss to the visiting Indians.

Windsor fended off Osage's Jordan Wilson for his 10-7 triumph at No. 1 singles.

"I liked the way Haydon battled; it was a close match the whole way through," Fulton head coach Rob Fisher said. "He found a way to pull away for the win and showed a lot of poise for such a young player.

"He was hitting some pretty deep shots and he had good ball placement."

From a team standpoint, Fisher had reason to be optimistic despite the Hornets' setback.

"The guys were really resilient, even though we didn't get the results we wanted," Fisher said.

Fulton remains at home for a non-conference matchup against Columbia Independent at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
