Sheehan scores twice, Westminster tops Blackburn in SLIAC play

Sophomore midfielder Tripp Sheehan accounted for both goals as the host Blue Jays stopped a three-match losing streak by blanking the Beavers 2-0 in Saturday night's SLIAC opener.

Sheehan supplied the only goal Westminster College (3-6) would need on an unassisted score in the 48th minute. He capped off the Blue Jays' victory with his goal in the 86th minute, off an assist from freshman back Austin Chandler.

Sophomore goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero needed just one save to post the shutout for Westminster, which outshot Blackburn College (4-7, 0-1) by a decisive 23-2 margin. The Blue Jays logged six shots on goal and four corner kicks.

Westminster travels to Greenville (Illinois) College for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
