North Callaway edges past New Bloomfield

Ladybirds senior shortstop Elaine Brinker's single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run as North Callaway outlasted the Lady Wildcats 2-1 on Monday night.

The Ladybirds (15-3) tied the game at 1-all in the seventh when junior designated player Taylor Wiseman scored on a fielding effort when junior third baseman Shannon Haley reached on a single. Freshman Kallie Jo Lehenbauer courtesy ran for Haley and scored the winning run when Brinker roped an offering from New Bloomfield sophomore starter Madison Love into the outfield.

North Callaway senior pitcher Danielle Cassidy got the win behind a complete-game, one-hitter. Cassidy (9-2) struck out 13, walked one and allowed one unearned run.

Wiseman and Haley were each 1-for-2, while Brinker finished 1-for-3.

Love struck out six in going the distance. She surrendered two earned runs on six hits and walked three.

Senior first baseman Paige Ragar was 1-for-3 for New Bloomfield (10-9).

Cassidy struck out 13 to power the No. 5 seed Ladybirds to a 4-3 win over No. 6 Palmyra on Saturday in the third-place game of the Centralia Tournament.

Cassidy went the distance for the victory, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Wiseman went 2-for-3 as North Callaway collected six hits.

Earlier Saturday, the Ladybirds gave up four runs on four errors in the sixth in a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Centralia in the semifinals.

Junior starter Madison Ausfahl struck out six in six innings, allowing one earned run, nine hits and a walk in taking the loss.

Cassidy, Brinker, junior left fielder Karlie Popp and junior right fielder Erinn Bush accounted for North Callaway's four hits.

Ausfahl's two-out, RBI single drove in the winning run in the Ladybirds' 3-2 win over No. 4 Hallsville in their tournament opener Saturday morning.

Cassidy struck out 16, gave up two earned runs on four hits and walked two in the complete-game win.

Brinker was 2-for-3 with a double and freshman second baseman Meagan Talley finished 2-for-4 as North Callaway produced six hits.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded New Bloomfield fell to No. 6 Fulton 4-3 in the third-place contest of the South Callaway Tournament on Saturday in Mokane.

Love threw a complete game in suffering the loss for the Lady Wildcats, allowing six hits, striking out three and walking two.

Sophomore Kate Baxter was 2-for-3 with three steals for the Lady Wildcats. Senior Kennedy Peiter, freshman Madi Craighead and senior Taylor Howard each produced a hit.

Top-seeded Fatima blasted New Bloomfield 12-2 in a five-inning, semifinal contest. Senior Mykaela Bonnett was 2-for-3 for the Lady Wildcats, while Craighead, Love and Peiter each had a hit.

Love allowed nine hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings in being pinned with the loss.

Baxter pitched the Lady Wildcats to a 3-2 triumph over No. 5 Eldon in the first round Saturday morning. She gave up six hits, struck out three and walked one.

Peiter finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Baxter, Bonnett and senior Paige Ragar were all 1-for-3.

The Ladybirds play an Eastern Missouri Conference tilt at Mark Twain at 5 p.m. today.

New Bloomfield hosts Show-Me Conference foe Linn at 5 p.m. today.
