Lady Wildcats golf team places second at District 3 championships

New Bloomfield moves on to next Monday's Sectional 2 meet

Seniors Brooke and Ashley Kelley posted top-10 finishes to power the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats to a runner-up showing at the Class 1, District 3 golf championships Monday at Redfield Golf & Country Club.

New Bloomfield advanced as a team to the Sectional 2 championships next Monday at the Marshfield Country Club.

The Lady Wildcats collected a team score of 398 to finish behind district champion Helias' 343 total. New Bloomfield was followed by Southern Boone (412), Eugene (417), Bolivar (451) and Crocker (600).

Brooke Kelley shot a 7-over par 79 to earn fifth place individually and break the school's 18-hole record previously held by Ashtin Withers. Ashley Kelley logged an 87 to come in seventh and freshman Alexandra Morningstar tallied a 109 to finish in a tie for 19th.

Junior Hannah Cornman and freshman Maddison Markland shot a pair of 123s to tie for 26th place.

"I was very pleased overall with the way they played," New Bloomfield head coach Debbie Cuno said. "... The younger players were a little nervous about not having a stroke limit ... but I was proud of them because they were able to have a bad hole, work through it and get back on track, and keep going."

Osage's Taylor Hayes, Russellville's Mikala Jungmeyer and Helias' Jenna Kosmatka each shot a 77 to finish in a three-way tie for first place.
