North Callaway schools to host bond issue meetings

The Keep Improving District Schools (K.I.D.S.) Committee and the North Callaway School Board will host a series of informational meetings about the district's proposed $6 million bond initiative to appear before voters on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The gatherings will be held throughout the district to give everyone a chance to attend:

•5:30-6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the T-Bird Learning Center.

•4:30-5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at Williamsburg Elementary before Family Night.

•5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Auxvasse Elementary before the MAP Awards and school board meeting.

•4-8 p.m. Oct. 21 at Auxvasse, Hatton-McCredie and Williamsburg elementaries and the high school during parent/teacher conferences.

•4-8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Auxvasse, Hatton-McCredie and Williamsburg elementaries and the high school during parent/teacher conferences.

Superintendent Bryan Thomsen said the sessions will not consist of a formal presentation. Instead, there will be informational boards set up for different proposed projects, with K.I.D.S. Committee members stationed at each board to explain the projects and answer questions.

The district has already held two such sessions, and Thomsen said the feedback thus far has been encouraging.

"We've gotten a lot of positive comments and a lot of really good questions and suggestions," he said.

Thomsen said he is hoping area voters will make an effort to attend one of the sessions.

"It's really important our patrons know what we're thinking about and see that the school board's done a really good job thinking on the areas we're going to focus on," he said. "I hope people come out and we'll answer any questions or take any suggestions they have."

Projects on the no-tax-increase bond issue include:

•Construction of a new agri-science building;

•Renovation of existing science classrooms at the high school;

•Construction of a new bus barn/maintenance building;

•Construction of an all-weather outdoor track;

•Acquiring land for current and future expansion;

•Upgrade technology throughout the district;

•Remove asbestos at the high school and Auxvasse Elementary;
