Baysinger, Lady Hornets rally past Hannibal in NCMC win

Senior starter Brooke Baysinger struck out five in a complete-game effort as the Fulton Lady Hornets edged Hannibal 4-3 in North Central Missouri Conference play on Thursday night at the high school athletic complex.

Baysinger scattered five hits, walked two and allowed one earned run.

"I think she did a good job of getting ahead in the count and she had several key strikeouts that were big outs," Fulton head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said.

The Lady Hornets (4-13, 3-6 NCMC) cut a 2-0 deficit in half when freshman left fielder Emma Abbott singled home junior right fielder Alayna Lawson in the third inning.

Hannibal extended its lead back to two runs in the fourth, but freshman designated player Kendalyn Roesner hit a sacrifice fly to center, driving in junior first baseman Baileigh Horstmeier to bring Fulton within 3-2 in its half of the inning.

Horstmeier led off the Lady Hornets' sixth with a single and tied the game on Baysinger's RBI double. Sophomore Kenzi Archer - pinch-running for Baysinger - scored the decisive run when freshman third baseman Samantha Weber reached on an error.

"I think the biggest thing from tonight's game was we came back and I don't want to say we never gave up because that's so cliche, but we literally didn't give up and came back to take the lead in the sixth inning," Dooley-Wilder said. "And we finished the game."

Baysinger and Horstmeier were both 1-for-2 and Abbott finished 1-for-3 as the Lady Hornets made the most of just five hits.

Fulton dropped the junior varsity game 6-0.

The Hornets are the No. 6 seed in the South Callaway Tournament and will play No. 3 Eugene at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the baseball field.
