Grant Gaines, Hornets cross country team take first at Boonville

BOONVILLE - Paced by individual winner Grant Gaines, the Fulton Hornets cross country team took first place in a five-team field at the Boonville Invitational on Tuesday.

In the girls' division, Rachel Quick came in eighth to lead Fulton to a second-place finish out of three teams.

Gaines, a senior, triumphed with a time of 17 minutes, 45.06 seconds and was joined in the top five by two Fulton teammates. Sophomore Tanner Steffen came in third in 18:33.34 and freshman Mason Gaines was fourth in 18:37.96.

Also placing for the Hornets were sophomore Chaz Ballard, ninth in 19:15.96; freshman Nathan Quick, 10th in 19:16.24; freshman Haydon Windsor, 14th in 19:47.40, and freshman Gabe Luebbert, 16th in 20:30.34.

Rachel Quick led the Lady Hornets with a time of 22:59.00. She was followed by freshman Adrea Shadbolt, 16th in 24:15.00; senior Megan Coleman, 23rd in 26:22.64; sophomore Mary Hinchie, 25th in 26:58.78; freshman Sydney York, 26th in 27:17.02, and senior Trezamae Wagaman, 27th in 27:29.56.

In the junior varsity boys' race, Fulton sophomore Jared Eliuk took first place in 20:28.21, sophomore Brenden Dungan was second in 20:59.65, and senior Ian Shoemaker placed third in 21:38.36.

Junior Aaron Hickman came in sixth in 22:19.52, freshman Tyler Hickerson finished seventh in 22:58.40, and sophomore Caine Breedlove was 13th in 26:55.50.

Fulton competes in the Marshall Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
