New Bloomfield takes fourth at AA Softball tourney

The Lady Wildcats - the No. 2 seed in the AA Softball Tournament - fell to the top-seeded Southern Boone Lady Eagles 7-2 in Saturday's third-place game.

New Bloomfield (8-5) finished with six hits, but committed five errors.

Senior Megan Jenkins was 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Paige Ragar was 1-for-3 with one driven in. Senior Kennedy Peiter, sophomore Kate Baxter and freshman Madi Craighead all went 1-for-4.

Baxter started on the mound for the Lady Wildcats, striking out one, walking one and allowing nine hits.

New Bloomfield fell to No. 3 Eugene 8-7 in nine innings in semifinal action earlier that day. Baxter finished 3-for-4 with a double, sophomore Madison Love was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Craighead went 2-for-5 with one driven in.

Senior Mykaela Bonnett finished 2-for-4, while Peiter and Ragar each were 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Love took the loss on the mound, striking out six, but allowing nine hits and walking two.

The Lady Wildcats opened tournament play with an 8-2 victory over No. 7 Russellville on Friday night. Love took the win on the mound, fanning nine, allowing two runs, four hits and two walks. Senior Taylor Howard finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, while freshman Shelby Ruppel was 2-for-3 with a double and two driven in.

Love was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double, Bonnett was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two doubles and Ragar went 2-for-3 with one run batted in. Baxter had an RBI and was 1-for-4.

New Bloomfield hosted Sturgeon on Monday, but results were not available at press time. The Lady Wildcats play at South Callaway at 5 p.m. Thursday.
