Ladybirds tripped by flat offense in Hickman loss

AUXVASSE - The North Callaway Ladybirds had just four hits and left six runners on base in a 4-1 loss to the Hickman Lady Kewpies on Saturday.

North Callaway (9-2) responded to Hickman's two runs in the top of the third inning with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Senior shortstop Elaine Brinker singled with one out, stole second and scored on junior left fielder Karlie Popp's RBI single.

Hickman (10-4) add two more runs in the fifth to seal the win.

Brinker, Popp and junior designated player Taylor Wiseman all finished 1-for-3 for the Ladybirds. Junior right fielder Patri Eckert was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

Senior starter Danielle Cassidy (5-2) took the complete-game loss for North Callaway. Cassidy struck out 12, allowed four earned runs on four hits and walked eight.

"We had our chances, but we just didn't get the hits when we needed it," Ladybirds head coach Brandi Thomsen said.

North Callaway (5-2) bowed 6-4 in the junior varsity game.

The Ladybirds play at Fulton at 5 p.m. Monday.
