Lady Wildcats tumble to Eugene in SMC loss

EUGENE - Sophomore Kate Baxter and freshman Madi Craighead both went 2-for-3 in the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats' 5-2 Show-Me Conference loss to the Eugene Lady Eagles on Thursday night.

Baxter had a double, while Craighead had a double and an RBI as New Bloomfield collected six hits.

After Eugene plated a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Wildcats (7-3, 2-2 SMC) went in front with two runs in the top of the third. Craighead tied the game with a two-out, RBI double to bring in Baxter, then scored on a single by senior Kennedy Peiter.

The Lady Eagles responded with three runs in their half of the third, then tacked on a run in the sixth.

Peiter and sophomore starter Madison Love were both 1-for-3 for New Bloomfield. Love gave up eight hits, struck out one, walked three and hit two batters in suffering the complete-game loss.

New Bloomfield fell in the junior varsity game 6-0.

The Lady Wildcats - the No. 2 seed in the AA Tournament - began play against Russellville on Friday night, with action scheduled to conclude Saturday. Results were not available at press time.

New Bloomfield hosts Sturgeon at 5 p.m. Monday.
