William Woods tops Park for first AMC

The Owls bounced back from their first loss of the season to defeat the Pirates 3-1 in an American Midwest Conference clash Wednesday at Firley Field.

William Woods University (6-1, 1-1 AMC) got on the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal from senior defender Alan Matthew in the 23rd minute. Park (4-1, 0-1) then pulled even behind sophomore forward Cyril Gada's goal in the 36th minute.

The Owls went in front to stay at 2-1 in the 39th minute on junior midfielder Alex Severino's goal off an assist from senior midfielder Paulo Conelian. Freshman midfielder Lendell Louis-Jacques tallied William Woods' final goal in the 79th minute, scoring on freshman midfielder Matheus Schmid's assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Conor Cable collected five saves for the Owls, who were outshot 18-15.

William Woods continues AMC play at Williams Baptist (Arkansas) College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
