Lady Hornets erupt at plate, end skid with Marshall win

The Fulton Lady Hornets softball team broke out at the plate in bringing a halt to its skid.

Freshman pinch-hitter Kendalyn Roesner was 4-for-4 with a triple, four runs batted in and scored once Thursday night, triggering a 13-hit rampage as Fulton stopped a seven-game losing streak with a 15-5 North Central Missouri Conference romp over Marshall.

The Lady Hornets (2-9, 2-5 NCMC) jumped on top with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Owls answered with three in their half of the inning to take the lead. Fulton then replied with a four-run outburst in the second to go in front to stay at 6-3, then added three in the fifth and pulled away with six in the seventh.

Senior starter Brooke Baysinger also went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and scored three times for the Lady Hornets. Sophomore left fielder Kenzi Archer finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while freshman right fielder Emma Abbott was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run.

"We had good pitch selection and consistently - up and down the lineup - we were putting the ball in play," Fulton head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said.

Baysinger went the distance to log the win, allowing five runs - four earned - on eight hits. She struck out seven and walked three.

The Lady Hornets begin play in the AA Bash with a matchup against Southern Boone at 5 p.m. today. The game will be played in Eugene.
