Lady Wildcats' winning streak ends at seven

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats softball team watched its seven-game winning streak halted in a 6-1 Show-Me Conference loss to the Fatima Lady Comets on Tuesday night.

New Bloomfield (7-2, 2-1 SMC) scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman shortstop Madi Craighead doubled with two outs and came home on senior second baseman Kennedy Peiter's single. Peiter, Craighead, senior center fielder Mykaela Bonnett and sophomore starter Madison Love were each 1-for-3.

Love went the distance in suffering the loss, giving up six runs - five earned - and 10 hits. She struck out one and walked none.

"We couldn't find the holes offensively," Lady Wildcats head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said. "On defense, we made some good plays. However, we recognize some things we need to work on to become more solid.

"We take each game as a learning experience and use it to make us a more solid team all around."

New Bloomfield lost the junior varsity game 2-0.

The Lady Wildcats travel to Eugene for an SMC contest at 5 p.m. today.
