Ambulance board meeting rescheduled for Thursday

Due to lack of quorum, Tuesday night's regular Callaway County Ambulance Board meeting has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Most of the business on the agenda for Tuesday night's meeting will be postponed until the board next regular meeting on Oct. 21, but a decision on health insurance could not be put off that long - a decision on employee health care coverage must be made by Friday.

Director Charles Anderson told the three board members who were able to make it Tuesday night - Board President Bill Crull, Marilyn Macker and Clay Chism - that if there is not a quorum on Thursday he will select a health plan for next year.

"Because there's not a significant cost change, I'll probably choose the same plan we had last year," Anderson said.

David Hoy with Naught Naught Insurance Agency will not be able to attend Thursday night due to prior obligations, so he gave a brief summary of his presentation to Crull, Macker and Chism.

Hoy said he had run some proposals for commercial policies to compare to the district's current consolidated plan, but the results were similar to what the district already has.

"There's nothing that really says you ought to switch," Hoy said. "You can rest assured the price you're paying isn't way out of whack."

Hoy said he would recommend the district offer a third option to its employees this year, to include a Health Savings Account.

"In my opinion, HSA programs are rapidly becoming much more viable for most people," he said.

The board will further discuss 2015 health insurance options and make a decision at the Thursday meeting.
