North Callaway edges past Clopton

The Ladybirds remained unbeaten in the Eastern Missouri Conference after turning back the Lady Indians 3-1 on Tuesday night in the completion of a suspended game.

North Callaway was leading 2-0 entering the fourth inning when the contest was stopped because of rain on Sept. 9 in Auxvasse. The completion of the game was moved to Laddonia.

Freshman second baseman Meagan Talley finished 3-for-3 as the Ladybirds (8-1, 5-0 EMO) collected nine hits. Senior shortstop Elaine Brinker was also 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while senior catcher Kaysey Huddleston went 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored.

Huddleston drove in North Callaway's run Tuesday night with a single in the fifth.

Junior Madison Ausfahl worked all four innings in relief of senior Danielle Cassidy - who started the game on Sept. 9 - to pick up the victory Tuesday night. Ausfahl (4-0) gave up an earned run, scattered three hits, struck out seven and walked none.

The loss dropped Clopton to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in the conference.

The Ladybirds host Montgomery County in an EMO showdown at 5 p.m. Thursday.
