Holts Summit Optimist Club moves first kickball game to Sept. 22

The Holts Summit Optimist Club's first kickball league was scheduled to start Monday, Sept. 15. However, due to number of last-minute additional sign ups, the league moved its start date to Monday, Sept. 22.

Bob Crawford with the Optimist Club said he had several parents contact him after registration had closed. He extended registration to give more kids the opportunity to sign up and play, and pushed the start date back a week.

The league, which has 36 kids, will play on Monday nights at Howard Field in Holts Summit. One team will play a double header each week. The fifth week will be the league's championship game. Crawford said he was happy with the number of kids who registered.

"For a first-time league, I was told that was a really good turnout, especially for the size of Holts Summit," Crawford said.

The Optimist group advertised on Facebook and sent flyers home at Callaway Hills Elementary School in Holts Summit. The Optimist Club plans to do more advertising next year, which it hopes will attract even more kids for the league. The co-ed kickball league is open for children in third through sixth grade. It costs $15 to participate.

Coaches will contact their teams this week with the league's schedule. The first game will be Monday at 6 p.m. at Howard Field in Holts Summit.
