Weekend Roundup: A look at fundraisers and events happening in Callaway County this weekend

There are several fundraisers and events happening in Callaway County this weekend. The weather this weekend will be mostly clear and sunny. On Saturday, the high will be in the mid 60s and the low in the mid 40s. On Sunday, the high will be around 70 and the low around 50, according the National Weather Service.

Great America Rubber Duckie Race

Great America Rubber Duckie Race will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at Stinson Creek in Veteran's Park. Participants can buy one duck for $5 or a quack pack (10 ducks) for $35. First through Third place receive cash prizes between $25 and $100. Winners do not have to be present to win, but they do have to be present to win the door prizes. There will be food, games and giveaways.

Humane Society member Nancy Hickman said all proceeds benefit the Callaway County Humane Society, which provides spaying and neutering vouchers to pet owners who can not afford it, helps abandoned dogs and educates others.

"We help abused or abandoned dogs when we are notified," Hickman said. "(The Humane Society does) just about anything to do with animal welfare."

Interested participants can purchase ducks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday outside of Walmart.

Faith Maternity Care Diaper Dash 5k

Faith Maternity Care is holding a Diaper Dash 5k on Saturday. The run/walk is an event aimed at the entire family. The race begins at the veranda at Memorial Park and follows the public park trail. The race's proceeds go to Faith Maternity Care of Mid-MO. The non-profit organization helps women who are facing unplanned or crisis pregnancies. Faith Maternity Care encourages participants to bring a package of diapers to the event so they can be entered in a raffle for local prizes.

Friends of National Churchill Museum Color Run

Friends of the National Churchill Museum will host a color run in Fulton on Saturday. The Churchill Color challenge is a paint race that is designed to celebrate health and happiness, while supporting the museum's tuck-pointing efforts.

Friends of the National Churchill Museum Color Run will be from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. Runners can register at the National Churchill Museum, located at 501 Westminster Ave. in Fulton. Admission is $25 before race day and includes t-shirt, sunglasses, one color packet and a swag bag. Children under 10 are $10 and receive a t-shirt, sunglasses, one color packet and swag bag, as well.

Participants will wear white at the starting line and finish the race splashed in color.

Fulton VFW dinner

Fulton VFW Men's Auxilliary hosts dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the VFW. For a $12 donation, the menu is fried chicken, country ham, baked ham, green beans and salad. Proceeds go to veterans.

Sourdough Saturday at the Callaway Senior Center

The Callaway Senior Center is hosting Sourdough Saturday from 6:30-9 a.m. this Saturday. They will serve sourdough pancakes, made from scratch as well as scrambled eggs and sausage. The cost is $5 per plate. Proceeds go to the Callaway Senior Center. All ages are welcome.

Other events

The Ninth annual Central Missouri Renaissance Festival, located at Boster Castle Fairgrounds at 4274 County Road 220, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be performers, vendors and activities for children - including an adventure quest. Admission is $8 at the gate and children 5 years old and younger get in free.

The Holts Summit Optimist Club will host two activities on Saturday: a bicycle safety event and the club's annual moonlight bike ride. The bicycle safety event will start at 3 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Union Hill Baptist Church's parking lot. The Optimist Club will fix minor problems on children's bikes.

The moonlight bike ride is from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Summit Plaza. There is no preregistration for the event. The group will ride a couple laps around Holts Summit.

Crossroads Cowboy Church presents Old West Day, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The event features rodeo competition, open mule show, horseback rides, kids activities, pastor pudge, live entertainment, wagon rides and a petting zoo. Admission is free.

The eighth annual bluegrass and barbecue festival is from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday on the front lawn of the Fulton State Hospital. Admission is $5 per person - teens and kids 16 years old and younger are free with their parents' admission. Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Music entertainment will include Martin Family, Callaway Bluegrass, Wild Wood Boys, Blue Steel Rail and Dixie Union.

The Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society Cemetery Tour will be on Sunday afternoon. There will be three tour times starting at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. There is a limit of 25 tickets sold for each tour. Tickets are now available at the museum at 513 Court Street or by calling )573)-642-0570.
