Owls' Cable earns NAIA soccer honors

William Woods University freshman goalkeeper Conor Cable was named the NAIA national men's soccer defensive player of the week Tuesday.

Cable - a Spalding, England, native - also earned American Midwest Conference defensive player of the week honors Monday. He helped direct the Owls to a 3-0 record last week, all shutouts, and recorded 18 saves.

Cable has not allowed a goal in his last 272 minutes in the net. The last goal he gave up came in William Woods University's 1-1 tie at Avila University in Kansas City on Aug. 31.

With a .950 save percentage, Cable's 19 saves on the season rank him 22nd in the NAIA and his 0.220 goals-against average is ranked 14th.

The Owls played Wednesday night at Central Methodist University in Fayette, after the match was postponed Tuesday night because of the weather. Results were not available at press time.
