MOBERLY - After two lightning delays, extra innings and 3 1/2 hours, the Fulton Lady Hornets softball team came up just short in Tuesday night's 6-5 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Lady Spartans.
Junior Baileigh Horstmeier went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, a run scored and two stolen bases as Fulton (1-6, 1-3 NCMC) totalled eight hits. Senior Dacrie Depping was also 3-for-4 and scored twice, while senior Haylee Ebersole finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Senior starter Brooke Baysinger also went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
"The team did a nice job staying focused on the game (with the delays)," Lady Hornets head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said. "We did a much better job at the plate.
"Pitch selection made a difference in the quality of hits we had."
Baysinger threw a complete game in taking the loss, allowing six runs - five earned - on eight hits. She struck out eight and issued three walks. Fulton committed two errors.
The Lady Hornets host NCMC rival Mexico at 5 p.m. today at the high school athletic complex.
