Lady Blue Jays sweep Mount St. Joseph, claim third place

Sophomore outside hitter Riley Lawrence paced her team with seven kills and tied for the team-high with eight digs as the Lady Blue Jays swept the host Lady Lions to earn third place at the Mount St. Joseph Tournament on Saturday night.

Westminster (1-6) prevailed 25-22, 28-26 and 25-18 to earn its first win of the year.

Sophomore setter Gabby LaRose amd freshman outside hitter Hannah Marshall each tallied five kills as the Lady Blue Jays converted 16.7 percent of their attacks. LaRose matched Lawrence's eight digs, while sophomore setter Kayla Reeg and freshman libero Kendall Johnson both had seven digs.

Reeg led Westminster with 21 assists.

The Lady Blue Jays were swept by Thomas More College Lady Saints 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23 on Saturday.

Lawrence guided Westminster's offense with nine kills as the Lady Blue Jays had their best offensive display of the tournament with an attack rate of 47 percent. Reeg totaled 16 assists, while Johnson pitched in four digs.

Lawrence and Reeg each collected a double-double for Westminster in a four-set loss to the Heidelberg Student Prince to open the tournament on Friday.

The Lady Blue Jays bowed 25-16, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-17.

Lawrence tallied a team-high 12 kills and came up with 10 digs. Reeg distributed 31 assists and finished with 14 digs in earning all-tournament team recognition.

Johnson tied for the game high with 19 digs and LaRose added 16.

Westminster returns home to face Robert Morris University-Springfield (Illinois) at 7 p.m. tonight.
