Hornets' Gaines medals at Mexico Invitational

Fulton senior Grant Gaines clocked a fourth-place time of 17 minutes, 51.79 seconds to earn medal honors at the Mexico Invitational on Saturday.

Gaines' time paced a Hornet squad that finished fourth in the varsity boy's team standings with 103 points.

Sophomore Chaz Ballard finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:04.63, sophomore Jared Eliuk placed 27th in 20:21.6 and senior Ian Shoemaker took 34th place in 21:06.49.

Junior Luke Lohmeyer placed 36th in 21:16.74, senior Eli Alcorn finished in 40th place in 21:31.61 and junior John Burch finished th erace in 22:41.64 to take 49th place.

Junior Rachel Quick guided the Lady Hornets with a 20th-place time of 24:27.95 in the varsity girls' division. Senior Megan Coleman placed 27th in 25:18.48 and sophomore Katie Lowry concluded her run in 27:30.17 to finish 39th.

Sophomore Mary Hinchie finished in 42nd place in 27:46.17, while senior Trezamae Wagaman earned 44th place in 28:35.13. Fulton accumulated 98 points to finish fourth in the varsity girls' team standings.

Fulton used five top-10 finishes in the JV boys and girls race to win the team title with a score of 17.

Freshman Mason Gaines finished first in 19:02.55 to guide four other Hornet medalists. Freshman Nathan Quick was the runner up in a time of 20:18.75, freshman Gabe Luebbert took third in 20:51.64 and freshman Haydon Windsor earned fifth place in a time of 21:00.66.

Sophomore Brenden Dungan rounded out Fulton's top-10 finishers with an eighth-place result of 21:06.20.

Junior Aaron Hickman clocked a 21st-place time of 23:25.84, freshman Tyler Hickerson took 28th place in 24:19.94 and senior Ryan McLachlan placed 30th in 24:48.77.

Freshman Adrea Shadbolt took 33rd place in 25:16.34, sophomore Caine Breedlove earned 38th place in 26:37.81 and freshman Sydney York rounded out the Hornets' JV runners with a 41st-place time of 29:20.74.

Fulton runs at the 36th-annual Linn Invitational at 9 a.m. this Saturday.
