Fulton gets edged out by NCMC foe Hannibal

The Lady Hornets left the tying run at second base in the form of freshman sec0nd baseman Emma Abbott in Fulton's 2-1 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Lady Pirates on Monday.

With her team trailing 2-0, Lady Hornets senior pitcher Brooke Baysinger doubled to begin the top of the seventh. She moved to third base when Abbott singled, and Abbott moved to second on Hannibal's attempt to throw out Baysinger at third.

Baysinger scored the Lady Hornets' lone run when junior right fielder Alayna Lawson reached on a fielder's choice before Hannibal logged the final two outs.

Fulton (1-5, 1-2) connected on five hits with Abbott, Baysinger, senior shortstop Dacrie Depping and freshman first baseman Samantha Weber all went 1-for-3. Sophomore left fielder Kenzi Archer was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

Baysinger logged three strikeouts in the complete-game defeat. Baysinger allowed two unearned runs on three hits and four walks.

"I think she threw a good game," Lady Hornets head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said. "...We made some key outs behind her, but overall I think she threw a good game."

Fulton fell to 0-4 with a 6-0 loss in the JV game.

The Lady Hornets continue NCMC play at Moberly at 5 p.m. tonight.
