Fundraiser helps pay funeral expenses of Fulton 6-year-old who was shot

A fundraiser to pay for the funeral expenses of Dayne Simpson will be Sunday afternoon at Veterans Park in Fulton.

Dayne, 6, was shot to death in his home just outside of Fulton in the early morning hours of Aug. 28.

Friends of the mother are hosting the fundraiser starting at 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be a DJ providing music, hot dogs sold for $2.50 and drinks sold for $1.50 along with raffles, a washers contest, horseshoe pitching contest, beer pong and basketball. Game entry fees are $5 per person and $10 per team.

Melanie Soptick, who is helping organize the fundraiser, said they will start registering individuals and teams for the games at 4 p.m. and begin the contests when have enough registered. But, she said, no matter how late someone arrives, they will try to accommdate them to participate in the contests and games.

T-shirts will also be sold for $15 at the event. All proceeds go to help pay the funeral costs for Dayne. He was the son of Ladaynea Simpson.

"We just really want people to get out there and support her," Soptick said.

A poster for the event states it is 4-9 p.m., but Soptick said her group has a permit from the city to be there until midnight and they plan to stay as late as people want to come and participate.
