Anger-management-course graduate accused of holding woman at knife point in Fulton bar

A Fulton man who successfully completed a court-ordered anger management course last year is accused of holding a woman at knife point overnight at a local bar.

Fulton police were called to 1851 Underground Bar, 111 E. Fifth St., at 12:41 a.m. Saturday.

According to a press release from the Fulton Police Department, a man brandished a knife and made several threats toward a woman at the bar including holding her at knife point against her will.

Police arrested Matthew James Hamilton, 35, of Fulton for armed criminal action, assault in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon and felonious restraint, the press release stated.

Hamilton was taken to the Callaway County Jail on $23,500 bond.

In 2013, Hamilton completed a six-month anger management course and 40 hours of community service and in April this year completed a two-year probation sentence for a third-degree domestic assault conviction in 2012 in Cole County, according to online court records.

A jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 1 in Moniteau County for charges of second-degree assault and armed criminal action for an incident this past March in California.
