Fulton errors pile up in NCMC loss to Kirksville

Senior center fielder Haylee Ebersole was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as the Lady Hornets bowed to the Lady Tigers 13-3 in five innings in Thursday night's North Central Missouri Conference setback.

Fulton (1-4, 1-1 NCMC) put together eight hits, but stumbled defensively with eight errors.

"(Kirksville) bunted several times and we just weren't in enough to field it," Lady Hornets head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said. "We have to play fundamental softball."

The Lady Tigers tallied a run apiece in the first and second innings, then erupted for five in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Senior starter Brooke Baysinger put Fulton on the scoreboard with a two-run single in the top of the fourth. Ebersole knocked in the Lady Hornets' final run in the fifth.

Baysinger was saddled with all 13 runs - five earned - in the complete-game loss. She scattered four hits, struck out four and walked four.

Lady Hornets freshman shortstop Emma Abbott went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Baysinger was 1-for-2.

Fulton's junior varsity (0-4) fell 11-8 in four innings.

The Lady Hornets travel to NCMC foe Hannibal at 5 p.m. Monday.
