Culver-Stockton rallies, dumps Lady Owls volleyball team

The William Woods University Lady Owls volleyball team slipped to 2-5 on the season after Culver-Stockton College (3-2) completed a 17-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22 and 15-12 comeback win Tuesday night at Anderson Arena.

Freshman setter Brittney Engelbrecht recorded a double-double with 43 assists and 12 digs for William Woods, which has lost three straight matches. Senior outside hitter Kristen Bauer and junior outside hitter Emily Becker topped the Lady Owls with 13 kills apiece.

Freshmen outside hitters Abby Ferguson and Abbi McKnelly also chipped in with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior libero Abbie O'Mara registered a team-high 26 digs.

William Woods starts play at the Avila University Tournament in Kansas City with matches Friday against Johnson & Wales (10 a.m.) and host Avila (noon). The Lady Owls finish tournament play Saturday against Bethel College at 10 a.m. and American Midwest Conference opponent Benedictine University-Springfield (Illinois) at 2 p.m.
