Lady Owls drop final two volleyball matches at Bellevue tourney

William Woods closed out its run at the Bellevue University Tournament with losses to the fifth-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) College Lady Eagles and the Baker University Lady Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Owls (3-4) fell in three sets to the Lady Eagles 25-16, 25-5 and 25-23. Senior outside hitter Kristen Bauer put away a team-high eight kills as William Woods converted 5.7 percent of its attacks.

Freshman setter Brittney Engelbrecht handed out 21 assists while senior defensive specialist Abbie O'Mara contributed 10 digs in falling to Northwestern (7-1).

The Lady Owls took the Lady Wildcats to a fifth and deciding set in Saturday's opener before bowing. Baker (4-3) took the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-22, William Woods evened the match with back-to-back 25-16 triumphs then fell 17-15 in the final game.

Junior outside hitter Emily Becker finished with 11 kills and nine digs, sparking the Lady Owls to an 11.6 percent attack mark. Engelbrecht posted team highs in assists (36) and digs (18), while O'Mara and freshman outside hitter Abbi McKnelly totaled 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

William Woods hosts Culver-Stockton at 7 p.m. tonight.
