Lady Blue Jays shut out by Nebraska-Wesleyan in opener

The Lady Blue Jays managed just two shots on goal in a 4-0 season-opening loss to the Nebraska-Wesleyan Lady Prairie Wolves on Saturday.

Nebraska-Wesleyan scored in the second minute of action on junior forward Ashlee Slade's goal on an assist by junior Amber Johnson. Senior forward Mackensie Thaller assisted on sophomore forward Shannon Surber's goal in the 11th minute to push their lead out to 2-0, which the Lady Prairie Wolves took into halftime.

Surber assisted on Johnson's goal in the 65th minute and Slade notched her second tally on a breakaway effort in the 87th minute to finish the scoring.

Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey saved eight of the 12 shots she faced.

The Lady Blue Jays play at University of the Ozarks (Arkansas) this Saturday at 3 p.m.
