Dragon Kitchen owner Andy Ning and his staff spent Thursday afternoon prepping food - something they haven't done in a couple of weeks. The Chinese restaurant, located on Bluff Street, will reopen Friday, Oct. 31. The restaurant closed after it received poor marks on an Oct. 15 Fulton health inspection.

Ning said he had a personal matter that caused some problems and it should not have affected the restaurant, but it did. He added that Dragon Kitchen worked to immediately fix all of the problems found in the Fulton health inspector's report.

While closed, the restaurant added new booths, new carpet, did some minor kitchen remodeling, painted, replaced ceiling tiles and cleaned up. The restaurant also added labeling in the kitchen and reinforced procedures with its staff. Dragon Kitchen also wrote down some procedures that weren't previously in writing to serve as a constant reinforcement.

The past two weeks have been the only time the restaurant has been closed in the almost 10 years it has been open, Ning said. After the city received a complaint call about Dragon Kitchen, Fulton's health inspector performed an inspection on Oct. 15, which led to the restaurant closing for renovations.

The Oct. 15 health inspection report listed multiple violations, including, but not limited to:

•Seafood left out on prep table overnight;

•Dirty sink drains;

•Mold on doors of prep cooler;

•Chemicals not stored properly, next to food products;

•Dirt accumulation throughout kitchen and food preparation area;

•Blood-like substance in tote under table;

•Mold growing on ceiling tile in food preparation area;

•Broken floor tile;

•Disorganized storage area, food stored on floor;

•Carpet dirty in dining area; and

•Molded cabbage left on shelf.

Fulton's health inspector did walk through as Dragon Kitchen did renovations and performed another inspection on Oct. 29. That inspection found the restaurant to be in compliance with everything listed on the health inspection report.

Ning said Fulton's health inspector would do a followup walk through again sometime Friday. The restaurant will open for business at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 31.
