Seibolt, Blue Jays soccer team down Fontbonne 2-0

Freshman midfielder Dustin Seibolt tallied both goals Tuesday night as the host Westminster College Blue Jays soccer team blanked Fontbonne University 2-0 in a pivotal SLIAC match.

The victory was the second straight for Westminster, which inched ahead of Fontbonne and took over sole possession of second place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blue Jays are now 8-7-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in conference play, while the Griffins are 7-12 overall and 6-2 in the SLIAC.

Seibolt logged his first goal in the 18th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Tripp Sheehan. The duo then paired up again when Sheehan assisted on Seibolt's goal in the 49th minute.

Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero - named the SLIAC defensive player of the week Monday - needed just one save to post the shutout. The Blue Jays were edged 8-7 in overall shots, but had a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Each team had a corner kick.

Westminster ends the regular season with a SLIAC match at MacMurray (Illinois) College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
