Five Fulton runners medal at Bowling Green

Three medalists pushed the Fulton Hornets cross country team to a second-place showing in the varsity boys' division and the Lady Hornets collected two more medals in the varsity girls' race at the Bowling Green Invitational on Friday.

Senior Grant Gaines topped the Hornets' medalists with a sixth-place time of 18 minutes, 6.71 seconds. Freshman Mason Gaines earned 11th place in 18:29.12 and sophomore Chaz Ballard claimed 18th place with a new personal-record time of 18:54.

Freshmen Nathan Quick (19:13.48) and Haydon Windsor (19:22.02) also finished 21st and 22nd, respectively, for Fulton. Sophomore Tanner Steffen ran a time of 19:26.03 to finish 24th, while sophomore Jared Eliuk was 34th in 20:05.28.

Junior Rachel Quick paced the Lady Hornets by medalling with a 14th-place time of 23:41.13. Freshman Adrea Shadbolt also medaled, coming in 18th in 23:54.78.

Sophomore Kate Lowry set a new personal record, taking 38th in 25:44.87. Freshman Sydney York (27:30.85) came in 47th, senior Tresamae Wagaman placed 49th in 28:08.42 and sophomore Mary Hinchie earned 55th in 29:45.52.

Fulton freshman Tyler Hickerson claimed first place in the junior varsity boys' race, clocking a personal-best of 19:53.19. Freshman Gabe Luebbert finished fourth in 20:37.6, junior Luke Lohmeyer (20:53.77) was eighth and sophomore Brenden Dungan claimed 10th in 21:07.85.

Junior Mason Shoemaker garnered 12th place in 21:46.61, while junior John Burch took 15th place in a personal-best 22:01.75. Junior John Hickman came in 17th in 22:12.43, while freshman Richie Narancich placed 21st in a personal-best time of 22:51.27.

"I am so proud of these guys," Fulton head coach George Yates said. "They have worked really hard all season and have shown incredible dedication to each other and to the team.

"I am continually impressed by these guys for how much they improve and progress as runners each week."

The Hornets and Lady Hornets will run at the Class 3, District 4 championships at 10 a.m. next Saturday in Warrenton.
