Plassmeyer powers Westminster to UMAC win over Eureka

Senior quarterback Joe Plassmeyer threw for 432 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Jays thumped the Eureka College Red Devils 30-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Priest Field.

Westminster (4-2, 4-1) racked up 514 yards of offense and ripped off 30 consecutive points after falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter. Eureka kicker Tyler Winders connected on a 27-yard field goal with 11 minutes, 57 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Red Devils the early advantage.

Blue Jays junior kicker Kevin Ludwig's 23-yard kick split the uprights to tie the game at 3-all with 14:56 remaining in the second. Plassmeyer's 70-yard touchdown toss to junior wide receiver Austin Kempker pushed Westminster in front by a touchdown with 3:36 to go in the half.

Plassmeyer hit sophomore wide receiver Jack Williams for a 13-yard score with 10:41 left in the third. The duo collaborated on another touchdown toss, this one from 35 yards out to up the Blue Jays' lead to 24-3 with 2:35 to go in the period. Kempker's second touchdown catch, an 11-yard effort, capped off Westminster's scoring with 10:38 left in the fourth.

Plassmeyer completed 27-of-55 passes, while getting picked off once. Sophomore wide receiver Mike Washington collected eight passes for a game-high 120 yards. Kempker also eclipsed the century mark in receiving yards, catching four balls for 105 yards, while Williams finished with 87 yards on six grabs.

The Red Devils (2-4, 2-3) totaled just 208 yards of offense.

The Blue Jays continue UMAC play at Iowa Wesleyan at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The Tigers (4-2, 4-1) upended UMAC foe Martin Luther 34-14 last week.
