New Bloomfield hires additional reserve police officer

New Bloomfield hired Wesley Allee, of Jefferson City, as a reserve police officer at the city's Board of Aldermen meeting Thursday night. Allee has experience as a police officer in Holts Summit. He is currently the store manager at a Sprint store in Jefferson City.

Allee is the second reserve police officer the city has hired in the past two months. At the board's August meeting, they swore in Addison Watson as a reserve police officer for New Bloomfield.

The police department is slotted for six officers but, prior to hiring Watson, it only had three officers for several months. The New Bloomfield Police Department now has two paid officers and three volunteer officers.

Reserve officers usually have other jobs. New Bloomfield Chief of Police Chris Hammann previously told the Fulton Sun that he wants to have a few part-time officers so the department can better work around each of the volunteer officers' availability.

New Bloomfield Mayor Michael Lowe Sr. said the city hopes to hire one or two more reserve officers in the coming months. Anyone interested in becoming a reserve police officer can contact New Bloomfield City Hall at (573) 491-3614.

The city's board of aldermen also hired an alternate municipal judge at its Thursday night meeting. The judge will fill in for the city's current judge while she is on maternity leave.
