Fueled by five medal winners, the Fulton boys' cross country team garnered second place in the varsity team standings at the 11th-annual Laker Invitational on Saturday at Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
Two Lady Hornets took home medals to spur their squad to a fifth-place showing in the varsity girls' division.
Senior Grant Gaines sparked the Fulton boys with a runner-up showing of 17 minutes, 31.69 seconds. Freshman Mason Gaines placed in the top 10, finishing seventh in 17:56.09.
Freshman Haydon Windsor took 15th in 19:06.45, freshman Nathan Quick secured 17th place in 19:07.87 and sophomore Tanner Steffen ran an 18th-place time of 19:08.42.
Sophomore Chaz Ballard claimed 21st in 19:10.44 and sophomore Jared Eliuk rounded out the Hornet runners, clocking a time of 19:27.14 to earn 27th place.
Junior Rachel Quick and freshman Adrea Shadbolt produced medal-winning performances for the Lady Hornets, finishing in 14th and 15th place, respectively. Quick concluded her run in 22:44.68, while Shadbolt was right behind her, crossing the line in 22:48.11.
Senior Trezamae Wagaman earned 27th place with a time of 26:06.79, sophomore Mary Hinchie (27:00.22) took 34th and freshman Sydney York finished in 27:40.72, good for 35th place.
Fulton had a pair of medalist in the junior varsity boys' division on its way to finishing fifth. Freshman Gabe Luebbert took 14th place in 20:08.50, while sophomore Brenden Dungan secured 19th in 20:20.58.
Junior Luke Lohmeyer (20:49.22) placed 24th, senior Ian Shoemaker took 31st in 21:08.85, and freshman Tyler Hickerson ran a 21:36.10 to come in 38th. Junior John Burch (42nd in 22:10.58) and sophomore Caine Breedlove (62nd in 25:56.58) were the Hornets' final two JV finishers.
Fulton will run at the Frank Lemons Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday in Hannibal.
