Car, foot chase leads to arrest of Fulton man

A Fulton man allegedly led a Callaway County Sherriff's Office deputy on a high-speed chase around 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Old Highway 54 and State Road NN.

A sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a man driving a silver Toyota Prius for speeding, but the driver took off reaching speeds of more than 90 MPH, according to a press release from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

The officer drove after the vehicle for several miles, and then the driver, Clayton Craddock, 29, fled the car leading the deputy on a foot chase. Eventually the deputy caught Craddock and tried to place him under arrest, but Craddock allegedly used his fingers in an attempt to gouge the officer's eyes out, according to the release.

The deputy has sustained minor injuries.

Additional deputies and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper later assisted the deputy in arresting Craddock, who was taken into custody. Officers allegedly discovered cannabinoids in Craddock's possession and he was charged with a drug-related DWI.

He is also facing charges of resisting arrest, C&I driving, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, possession of synthetic cannabinoids and exceeding the posted speed limit of more than 26 MPH.

Craddock's bond was set at $10,759, which he posted Saturday morning.

Craddock pleaded guilty in 2008 to intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the crime. In 2006 and 2008, Craddock pleaded guilty to possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana. He pleaded guilty in 2010 to an alcohol DWI charge.
