Nichols, Wildcats top Calvary Lutheran in season opener

Junior guard Grant Nichols poured in a team-high 25 points to lead four New Bloomfield double-digit scorers in a 74-45 season-opening win over the Calvary Lutheran Lions on Tuesday night.

Junior guard Derek Shikles posted 13 points, while forwards Leo Ramirez and Jak Kitchens each posted double-doubles. Ramirez - a junior - notched 12 points and 10 rebounds, while the freshman Kitchens added 10 points and paced the Wildcats with 13 rebounds.

Senior forward Brady Wiler added nine points for New Bloomfield, which led 46-34 at halftime but put the game out of reach by outscoring the Lions 28-11 in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats fell in the JV game 56-37.

New Bloomfield - seeded fourth in the 78th-annual Tipton Tournament - will play No. 5 Climax Springs at 6 p.m. Monday.
