Lady Owls roll through Stephens in AMC opener

Sparked by a 21-0 run to start the game, William Woods opened its American Midwest Conference schedule with a dominating 76-30 triumph over the Stephens College Stars on Thursday night.

The Lady Owls (4-1, 1-0 AMC) rode that sizzling start to a 41-11 advantage at halftime.

Junior guard Veronica Jones tallied a game-high 17 points as the only William Woods player in double figures. Jones finished 6-of-17 from the floor and knocked down both of her 3-point attempts.

Junior guard Marissa Webb logged eight points on 3-of-5 shooting as the Lady Owls connected on 44 percent from the floor (31-of-70) and 47 percent from beyond the arc (8-of-17).

William Woods - winners of three straight - outrebounded the Stars 56-31. The Lady Owls scored 24 points off 23 Stephens turnovers.

William Woods hosts AMC foe Benedictine University-Springfield at 2 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Arena.
