Blue Jays soccer team's season ends in Division III loss to Loras

It was a familiar feeling and score to end the season for the Westminster Blue Jays soccer team.

The No. 8-ranked Loras (Iowa) College Duhawks used a pair of second-half goals to down Westminster 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at Rock Bowl Stadium.

The Blue Jays ended their season at 11-8-1. Westminster fell to Loras by an identical 2-0, season-ending outcome in 2013's Division III sectional round on the same field.

The Duhawks broke a scoreless tie in the 66th minute on Spencer Moore's goal, off an assist from Richard Lenke. Mike Pizzello notched Loras' final goal in the 74th minute, scoring off Ike Bruns' assist.

The Blue Jays finished with one shot on goal. Blue Jays sophomore goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero recorded 11 saves.

The Duhawks will play either Gustavus Adolphus (Minnesota) College or Dominican (Illinois) University at 6 tonight in second-round action.
