Lady Owls volleyball team advances to semis of AMC postseason tourney

Plays at No. 2-ranked, No. 1 seed Park tonight

The William Woods University Lady Owls volleyball team will get the opportunity to take down the top target.

No. 4 seed William Woods thwarted No. 5 Williams Baptist (Arkansas) College in a dramatic 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 16-14 quarterfinal win in the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Tuesday night at Anderson Arena.

The Lady Owls (23-15) - winners of three straight - now move on to a semifinal clash at second-ranked and No. 1 seed Park University at 7 tonight. The Lady Pirates (32-0) advanced by sweeping No. 8 seed Stephens College 25-10, 25-9 and 25-13 in quarterfinal play Tuesday night.

William Woods will be seeking to avenge a 25-17, 25-16 and 25-18 loss at Park on Nov. 1.

Senior outside hitter Kristen Bauer and freshman outside hitter Abbi McKnelly topped all players with 17 kills apiece Tuesday night to direct the Lady Owls. Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Davis also supplied 13 kills and junior outside hitter Emily Becker had 11.

Senior libero Abbie O'Mara - named the AMC player of the week Monday - sparked William Woods with a match-high 30 digs. Freshman setter Brittney Engelbrecht logged a double-double with 48 assists and 15 digs.

In tonight's other AMC semifinal, No. 3 seed Columbia College travels to No. 2 Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis. The conference championship is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the site of the higher seed.
