Westminster ends season with UMAC win

Senior quarterback Joe Plassmeyer tossed three touchdowns - including two in the fourth quarter - to vault the Blue Jays to a season-ending 28-21 UMAC win over the Knights on Saturday.

Westminster (6-4, 6-3 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) outgained the Knights offensively 444-247.

Plassmeyer hit sophomore wide receiver Mike Washington for the go-ahead 24-yard touchdown strike with 1 minute, 53 seconds remaining. Blue Jays junior free safety CJ Vaughan's interception with :44 left halted Martin Luther's bid to extend the game.

Plassmeyer completed 20-of-34 passes for 271 yards and a pair of picks, while Washington paced all players with 121 receiving yards on nine catches.

Westminster junior wide receiver Austin Kempker put his team in front 7-0 on a 12-yard scoring pass from Plassmeyer with :05 left in the first.

Junior fullback Jantzen Bradford upped the Blue Jays' advantage to two scores on a 1-yard scoring plunge with 11:23 to go in the second.

Martin Luther (2-8, 1-8 UMAC) cut the lead in half on Eddie Endicott's 2-yard touchdown with 9:13 to go in the quarter. Matt Olson's 29-yard touchdown pass to Josh Rathje with 3:12 left sent the game into halftime tied 14-all.

The Knights pulled in front with 9:34 left in the third on Joseph Rodewald's 21-yard touchdown run. Kempker hauled in his second touchdown of the game on a 27-yard throw from Plassmeyer with 8:24 left to even the game at 21-21.

Kempker finished with 98 receiving yards on six catches. Freshman running back Latif Adams paced Westminster with 92 rushing yards on 17 attempts, while Endicott logged a game-high 109 yards on 18 carries.
