Lady Blue Jays' season ends in SLIAC semifinals

The fourth-seeded Lady Blue Jays had just two shots in a 2-1 season-ending loss to the Lady Gorlok in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday.

Westminster - appearing in its first SLIAC tournament since 2006 - finishes the season 8-7-3.

Webster (14-4-3) went on to defeat No. 3 Principia 3-1 on to capture the tournament title on Friday night.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but Lady Gorlok forward Kristin Montgomery netted the game's first goal on forward Lauren Pratt's assists in the 57th minute.

Lady Blue Jays junior forward Ashley Schimmel tied the game at 1-all in the 81st minute via junior midfielder Eileen Koppy's assist. Pratt provided the game-winning goal for Webster in the 82nd minute on a pass from forward Jessica Mess.

Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey collected six saves. Schimmel and junior backer Katie Koonce were named to the all-SLIAC tournament team.

Freshman center-backer Abby Rockers was a first-team all-SLIAC selection, while also being named the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Koppy earned second-team all-SLIAC recognition after wrapping up the season with five goals and four assists, good for 14 points. Junior forward Tayisah Pohtos also garnered a second-team nod, totaling a team-high 17 points on seven goals and three assists.

Junior forward Monica Bittner joined Koppy and Pohtos on the second team, 15 points and matching Pohtos with seven goals.

Junior defender Brittany Paglusch was honored with a spot on the SLIAC's all-Sportsmanship team.
