Lady Blue Jays soccer team falls to Webster in SLIAC semifinals

FENTON - The Westminster College Lady Blue Jays soccer team proved to be a bit of a handful for Webster University.

Lauren Pratt delivered the game-winning goal with 8 minutes, 46 seconds to play as top-seeded Webster finally put away No. 4 Westminster 2-1 in the semifinals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament Wednesday night.

The Lady Blue Jays ended their season with an 8-7-3 mark. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Lady Gorloks (13-4-3), who will play No. 3 seed Principia (Illinois) College for the tournament title at 7 p.m. Friday.

Principia advanced with a 1-0 win over No. 2 Fontbonne University in semifinal play earlier Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, Webster broke through when Kristin Montgomery tallied a goal off an assist from Pratt with 33:55 to play. The Lady Gorloks protected their slim lead until Westminster tied the match with 14:41 left when junior forward Ashley Schimmel scored on junior midfielder Eileen Koppy's assist.

A little less than 6 minutes later, Pratt answered with the decisive goal on an assist from Amy Schield.

The Lady Blue Jays were outshot by a considerable 19-5 margin, including 8-2 in shots on goal.
